First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new method for placing spinal cord stimulators in people with chronic back pain. The device uses electrical recordings to confirm the lead is in the right spot. Twenty adults with long-term back pain will take part, and researchers will measure pain relief and map pain areas.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
spinal cord stimulation device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could improve how spinal cord stimulators are placed, leading to better pain relief for people with chronic back pain.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The technique is still experimental and may not provide better pain relief than current methods.
