New balloon treatment shows promise for clogged heart stents

NCT ID NCT05731700

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested a special balloon coated with the drug everolimus to treat in-stent restenosis, a condition where a previously placed heart stent becomes narrowed again. Fifty-one adults with this condition received the balloon treatment during a heart procedure. The goal was to see if the balloon is safe and effective at keeping the artery open, without causing serious heart problems or the need for repeat procedures.
