Could a zap on the forehead ease Parkinson's shuffling?
NCT ID NCT07656129
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a non-invasive device that gently stimulates a nerve on the forehead (external trigeminal nerve stimulation, or eTNS) can immediately improve walking and other movement problems in people with Parkinson's disease. Thirty participants will each try two different stimulation frequencies and a sham (fake) session in random order, all while on their regular medication. The goal is to see if eTNS can reduce the difficulty of walking while doing another task, like talking.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
external trigeminal nerve stimulation (eTNS) device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a non-invasive, drug-free way to temporarily improve walking and movement in people with Parkinson's disease.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study (30 people) testing only immediate effects in a single session. It may not show meaningful improvement or translate to long-term benefits.
