New pill could shield kids with sickle cell from stroke
NCT ID NCT05953584
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new medicine called etavopivat in 27 children aged 12-16 with sickle cell disease who are at higher risk for stroke. Participants take one daily pill for a year, and doctors use ultrasound to measure blood flow in the brain. The goal is to see if etavopivat can safely lower stroke risk, especially in those who cannot take or still have risk on standard hydroxyurea therapy.
