Brain study tests hormone boost for PTSD therapy
NCT ID NCT04192266
Summary
This study tested whether adding an estrogen pill (estradiol) to a standard talk therapy called Prolonged Exposure could improve treatment results for women with PTSD. Researchers enrolled 83 women and randomly assigned them to receive either the therapy with estrogen or therapy with a placebo pill. They used brain scans and symptom measurements to see if the estrogen helped the therapy work better by affecting brain areas involved in fear processing.
