A hormone head start: could estrogen before IVF boost pregnancy chances in PCOS?

NCT ID NCT07727863

First seen Jul 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 28, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether taking estradiol (a form of estrogen) for about 10 days before starting ovarian stimulation can help women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have more synchronized follicle growth and better IVF outcomes. Sixty women with PCOS undergoing ICSI are randomly assigned to receive either estradiol pretreatment or no pretreatment. Researchers will measure follicle size consistency, hormone doses needed, and pregnancy rates to see if this simple step makes a difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
estradiol valerate (a form of estrogen) taken as a pill before starting ovarian stimulation
What this could lead to
If effective, this simple hormone pretreatment could improve egg quality and pregnancy rates in women with PCOS undergoing IVF.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial, so results may not apply broadly. Estrogen therapy carries risks like blood clots, and the benefit over standard care is unproven.
