New scan could spare prostate cancer patients from yearly needle biopsies
NCT ID NCT05948657
First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study is testing whether a special type of PET scan (PSMA-PET CT) can accurately rule out dangerous prostate cancer in men who are already on active surveillance (watchful waiting). Researchers will compare scan results with yearly biopsies in 200 men with low- or favorable intermediate-risk prostate cancer. If the scan proves reliable, it may help many men avoid invasive biopsies while still catching any cancer growth early.
