AI predicts breathing tube failures in 44,000 patients

NCT ID NCT06617403

First seen May 15, 2026 ยท Last updated May 15, 2026

Summary

This study looked at 44,000 adults who had general anesthesia for non-heart surgery. Doctors used a breathing mask (supraglottic airway) but sometimes it fails and they need to switch to a different tube. The ERICA study used artificial intelligence to see if patient information before surgery could predict when this switch might happen. The goal is to help doctors plan better and avoid complications.
