New recovery plan aims to cut opioid use after kidney transplants

NCT ID NCT06997016

Summary

This study is testing whether a special recovery plan called Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) can help people need less strong pain medication after receiving a kidney from a living donor. Researchers will compare 60 patients using the ERAS plan—which includes a pre-surgery drink, specific medications, and early walking—to past patients who did not use it. The main goals are to see if this plan lowers pain scores and reduces the need for opioid painkillers after the transplant operation.
