Blood pressure mystery: EPO's hidden risk in kidney patients

NCT ID NCT03810911

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looked at why erythropoietin (EPO), a drug used to treat anemia, can raise blood pressure in people with chronic kidney disease. Researchers planned to compare patients who started EPO right away with those who waited, measuring blood pressure changes over 12 weeks. The study was stopped early and only enrolled 27 out of 160 planned participants, so results are limited.
