First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether injecting epinephrine into the prostate during a common surgery for enlarged prostates (TURP) can reduce blood loss. Men with prostates between 80 and 100 grams who have not responded to medication are eligible. The study measures bleeding during and after surgery, as well as prostate volume and urine flow.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- epinephrine injected into the prostate during bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could make prostate surgery safer by reducing blood loss and the need for transfusions.
- What could go wrong
- This is a single-center trial with 80 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Epinephrine can affect heart rate and blood pressure, posing risks for men with heart conditions.
