Scientists probe sleep breathing link to sudden death in epilepsy

NCT ID NCT06545214

Summary

This study aims to understand how breathing and the brain's sleep-wake systems interact in people whose epilepsy doesn't respond well to medication. Researchers will monitor 60 participants overnight to measure their breathing responses and arousal thresholds during sleep. The goal is to gather knowledge that could explain the high risk of sudden unexpected death (SUDEP) that occurs after nighttime seizures.
