Epidural length showdown: 4 cm vs 5 cm for better labor pain control

NCT ID NCT04946032

First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looked at whether leaving 4 cm or 5 cm of the epidural catheter inside the spine provides better pain relief during labor in non-obese women. 200 women in labor were randomly assigned to one of the two lengths. The goal was to see which length leads to fewer problems like uneven pain relief or the need to redo the epidural.
