First seen May 22, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at whether pain medicine (ropivacaine and sufentanil) given to mothers during labor can affect the baby's heart rate. Researchers planned to measure medicine levels in the mother's blood and compare them to any heart rate changes in the baby. The study was stopped early and included 40 first-time mothers with a single, full-term baby in head-first position.
