Magnetic eye cells tested in cataract surgery safety trial
NCT ID NCT05587205
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-stage trial tests a new treatment called EO2002, which uses magnetic human corneal cells injected into the eye during or after cataract surgery. The goal is to see if it is safe and tolerable for patients with low corneal cell counts. The study involves 32 participants and compares EO2002 to a sham (fake) injection.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Magnetic human corneal endothelial cells (EO2002)
What this could lead to
If safe, this could lead to a new way to repair the cornea after cataract surgery, potentially reducing the need for corneal transplants.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 32 people, focused on safety. It is too small to prove effectiveness, and the cells may not work as hoped or could cause side effects.
