Five sessions to ease the hidden toll on psychiatric caregivers
NCT ID NCT04020497
First seen Sep 25, 2026 · Last updated Sep 25, 2026
Summary
Researchers test whether a five-session psychological program called Ensemble can reduce distress in people caring for adults with severe psychiatric disorders. The trial enrolls 160 French-speaking caregivers in Switzerland who report at least moderate burden. Half receive Ensemble plus their usual support, and half receive usual support alone. The main measure is change in overall distress, with optimism and other outcomes tracked as well.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a five-session psychological support program called Ensemble
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could give caregivers of psychiatric patients a short, structured program that eases their distress and helps them cope.
- What could go wrong
- The program may not outperform usual support, and its benefits may fade after the sessions end. Results from one Swiss region may not apply elsewhere.
