ICU kidney patients: do blood thinners need a new recipe?
NCT ID NCT07384598
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how the blood thinner enoxaparin works in critically ill ICU patients with kidney failure, some on dialysis and some not. Researchers will measure drug levels in the blood over 24 hours after a daily shot. The goal is to see if current dosing is enough to prevent dangerous clots, since kidney problems can change how the drug is cleared from the body.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
enoxaparin (a blood thinner)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to better dosing guidelines for blood thinners in ICU patients with kidney problems, reducing clot risks.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study (60 people) that only measures drug levels, not actual outcomes like clot prevention. Results may not apply to all ICU patients.
