New lens technique aims to reduce glasses dependency after cataract surgery
NCT ID NCT07168109
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether an enhanced monofocal intraocular lens, set for monovision (one eye for distance, one for near), improves vision without glasses in people with both cataracts and high myopia. Sixty-six participants will receive the lens in both eyes and be followed for one year. The goal is to see if this strategy provides better overall vision than the standard approach.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
enhanced monofocal intraocular lens
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer better distance and near vision without glasses for people with high myopia and cataracts.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 66 participants. The monovision strategy may cause reduced depth perception or visual disturbances in some people.
