New keyhole surgery for salivary gland tumors shows promise

NCT ID NCT07600112

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares a new, minimally invasive keyhole surgery (endoscopic parotidectomy) to the standard open surgery for removing benign (non-cancerous) tumors from the parotid gland, a major salivary gland. The goal is to see if the keyhole approach is as safe and effective, with better cosmetic results and fewer complications. The study involves 46 adults with small, superficial tumors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Endoscopic parotidectomy (minimally invasive surgery)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer patients a less invasive option for removing benign parotid tumors, with smaller scars and potentially faster recovery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 46 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The endoscopic technique may not be suitable for all tumor types or sizes.
