Period blood may hold key to endometriosis diagnosis

NCT ID NCT06245512

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study aims to find markers in menstrual blood that can diagnose endometriosis, a painful condition affecting many women. Researchers will compare menstrual blood from 250 women with and without endometriosis, and also look at changes after surgery. If successful, this could lead to a simple, non-invasive test using a menstrual cup.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simple, non-invasive test for endometriosis using menstrual blood, making diagnosis easier and faster.

What could go wrong

This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. The markers found may not be reliable enough for widespread use, and results may not apply to all women.
