New ER program aims to stop opioid overdoses with telehealth and peer support

Summary

This study tests a program for people with opioid use disorder who have had an overdose. After leaving the emergency room, participants get telehealth visits, a peer support specialist, and medication (buprenorphine) to help them stay in treatment. The goal is to reduce repeat overdoses and deaths. About 160 adults from one hospital in Alabama will take part.
