First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a single, 2-hour group class called Empowered Relief can help reduce pain and improve recovery after elective orthopedic surgery compared to standard care. The class teaches pain education, self-regulation skills, and mindfulness. Researchers will follow 134 adults for 3 months to see if the class lowers pain intensity and interference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Empowered Relief (a single-session, 2-hour group class teaching pain education, self-regulation, and mindfulness)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to reduce pain and improve recovery after elective orthopedic surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial (134 participants) testing a behavioral intervention, so results may not apply to everyone. The effect may be modest or not last long-term.
