New combo aims to wipe out hidden breast cancer cells after standard treatment

NCT ID NCT04333706

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding the drug sarilumab to chemotherapy (capecitabine) can eliminate tiny amounts of cancer left behind after standard treatment in people with triple negative breast cancer, a very aggressive type. The goal is to prevent the cancer from coming back and improve survival. About 65 adults with high-risk or metastatic breast cancer will take part. The study has two phases: first finding the safest dose, then checking if the treatment clears cancer cells from the blood and bone marrow.
