New drug hopes to tame rare muscle and skin disease

NCT ID NCT06284954

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a drug called empasiprubart in adults with dermatomyositis, a rare disease causing muscle weakness and skin rash. Three participants receive either the drug or a placebo for 25 weeks, then are followed for 65 more weeks. The goal is to see if the drug is safe and helps improve symptoms.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

empasiprubart (also called ARGX-117), given as an intravenous infusion

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for dermatomyositis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness and skin rash.

What could go wrong

This is a very early Phase 2 trial with only 3 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may not work better than placebo, and side effects are still being studied.
