Could a new drug help tiny babies feed faster?
NCT ID NCT05670951
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a drug called ELGN-2112 in preterm infants born between 26 and 32 weeks who have trouble absorbing food. The goal is to see if the drug helps them reach full feeding sooner compared to a placebo. About 360 babies will take part in this Phase 3 trial.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ELGN-2112 (human insulin made from recombinant DNA)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help preterm babies with gut problems reach full feeding sooner, reducing hospital stays and complications.
What could go wrong
This is still a controlled trial, and the treatment may not work better than placebo. Risks in preterm infants are always high, and the drug's safety is still being studied.
