Zapping nerves during surgery could end breast numbness

NCT ID NCT03240900

Summary

This study is testing whether a brief, one-hour session of electrical stimulation during surgery can help restore normal feeling to the breast after a mastectomy and reconstruction. It will involve 30 women who are having both breasts removed to prevent cancer. Doctors will stimulate the nerves in one breast during the operation and then compare its recovery of touch and temperature sensation to the other breast over two years.
