New drug tested to halt kidney damage in lupus patients

Summary

This study tested whether adding an intravenous drug called efgartigimod to standard treatment could better control lupus nephritis, a serious kidney complication of lupus. It involved 73 Chinese adults with active kidney inflammation from lupus. The main goal was to see if the drug reduced protein in the urine and improved kidney response over 24 weeks of treatment.
