Brain wave monitor tested during surgery sedation

NCT ID NCT07468162

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will monitor brain wave patterns in 48 adults undergoing orthopedic surgery under sedation with one of three drugs: remimazolam, dexmedetomidine, or midazolam. Researchers aim to see how these drugs change brain activity from the start of sedation through recovery. The goal is to better understand the unconscious state and improve monitoring during surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

remimazolam, dexmedetomidine, or midazolam

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors better understand how different sedatives affect brain activity during surgery, potentially improving anesthesia monitoring.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study with only 48 participants. It is not designed to test treatment effectiveness, and results may not apply to all patients or surgeries.
