First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tested whether starting a heart-lung machine (ECPR) right at the scene of a cardiac arrest, instead of waiting until arrival at the hospital, could improve survival and brain function. The trial included 221 adults aged 18-50 who had a witnessed cardiac arrest and did not respond to standard CPR. The goal was to see if faster support leads to better outcomes and lower healthcare costs.
