Scientists probe mystery of light therapy for transplant complications

NCT ID NCT03438643

Summary

This study aimed to understand how a light-based blood treatment called extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) works in patients with chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD). Researchers followed 8 patients receiving ECP along with standard steroid medications to see how the treatment changed their immune cells. The main goal was to learn about the biological mechanisms behind ECP rather than to test its effectiveness as a new treatment.
