Computer sleuths hunt for clues to stop deadly infections in preemies

NCT ID NCT07254559

Summary

This was a pilot study to see if it's possible to build a computer warning system for two serious conditions in very small premature babies: sepsis (a bloodstream infection) and necrotizing enterocolitis (a severe intestinal disease). Researchers reviewed past medical records from 144 babies weighing less than 3.3 pounds at birth to create and test predictive models. The goal was to learn if data already collected in the hospital could be used to spot these illnesses earlier.
