Can an 8-Hour eating window preserve muscle gains?

NCT ID NCT05908201

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether eating all meals between 9am and 5pm for six weeks changes muscle strength and endurance in adults who already lift weights regularly. Participants will either follow this early time-restricted eating plan or eat normally, while keeping their usual exercise routines. Researchers will measure muscle strength, endurance, body composition, hunger, and sleep quality to see if the eating schedule makes a difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

early time-restricted eating (eating only between 9am and 5pm)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that timing meals within an 8-hour window does not harm muscle performance in active individuals, offering a flexible diet option.

What could go wrong

This is a small, short-term study (40 people, 6 weeks) in already fit adults, so results may not apply to other groups or longer periods. The diet may be hard to stick to.
