Can a quick online therapy stop PTSD before it starts?
NCT ID NCT06592677
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether an online, therapist-guided therapy called CIPE can prevent PTSD in people who recently experienced a traumatic event. About 360 adults receiving support from crisis teams will either get CIPE plus usual care or usual care alone. The goal is to see if early online therapy reduces PTSD symptoms and prevents the disorder from developing.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Condensed Internet-delivered Prolonged Exposure (CIPE) - an online, therapist-assisted therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide an effective early intervention to prevent PTSD after a traumatic event, reducing long-term suffering and healthcare costs.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small trial (360 people) testing a new approach. The therapy may not be more effective than usual care, and results may not apply to all trauma survivors.
