Text message Check-Up could stop surgery pain from lingering
NCT ID NCT07160595
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether identifying and treating persistent pain just 3 months after surgery can stop it from becoming chronic. Over 2000 patients having common minor surgeries will be screened via SMS and either get early treatment or standard care. The goal is to see if early action reduces the number of people still in pain at 6 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- early management of postoperative pain via SMS screening and prompt treatment
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that early detection and treatment of pain after surgery prevents it from becoming chronic, improving recovery for many patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively early-stage trial without a drug, so the benefit may be small or not apply to all surgeries. The approach relies on patient response to SMS, which may not work for everyone.
