Heart pump combo shows promise for shock patients

NCT ID NCT03431467

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looked at people with cardiogenic shock, a life-threatening condition where the heart can't pump enough blood. All patients received a standard heart-lung machine (VA-ECMO). Half also got an extra pump (Impella CP) to relieve pressure on the heart. The goal was to see if the combination helped the heart recover enough to stop using machines or drugs. The study was stopped early after enrolling 17 people, so results are limited.
