Could starting HIV drugs at birth lead to a 'Functional Cure' for babies?

NCT ID NCT02369406

Summary

This study is testing if starting powerful HIV medication within the first week of life can limit how much of the virus takes hold in a baby's body. The goal is to see if this early treatment could allow children to safely take breaks from medication in the future without the virus quickly returning. The trial involves 67 HIV-positive infants in Botswana and compares them to children who started treatment later.
