Could simple leg scans save ICU patients from deadly blood clots?

NCT ID NCT05112705

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 14, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study is testing whether doing regular leg ultrasound scans on critically ill patients in intensive care can help detect dangerous blood clots (deep vein thrombosis) early. Finding clots early might prevent them from traveling to the lungs (pulmonary embolism) and potentially reduce deaths. About 1,800 ICU patients will be randomly assigned to receive either twice-weekly leg ultrasounds or the standard care their hospital already provides.
