Could stopping antibiotics early protect seniors from harm?

NCT ID NCT07030673

First seen Jan 20, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looks at whether it is safe to stop antibiotics early in people aged 65 and older who are in the hospital for a viral lung infection. Many older patients get antibiotics even when they have a virus, which can cause side effects and lead to antibiotic resistance. The researchers will compare how many days patients go without antibiotics and track side effects, deaths, and hospital stay length.
