Zapping the ear to fight a deadly immune overreaction

NCT ID NCT03992378

Summary

This small, early-stage study is testing if a gentle, non-invasive stimulation of a nerve in the ear can help calm the body's dangerous overreaction to a severe infection, known as septic shock. Researchers will compare the effects of real stimulation versus a sham (fake) stimulation in 34 patients, while all continue to receive standard medical care. The goal is to see if this approach can reduce harmful inflammation and improve the body's natural balance, potentially leading to better outcomes.
