Could a tiny ear device help fight the opioid crisis after surgery?

NCT ID NCT05506878

Summary

This study is testing if a small, disposable device that gently stimulates nerves in the ear can help reduce pain and the need for strong opioid painkillers after major abdominal surgery or a liver transplant. Researchers will compare the active device to a placebo version in about 286 patients who are expected to stay in the hospital for at least 5 days. The goal is to find a safe, non-drug option to help manage post-surgery pain and lower the risk of opioid dependence.
