Ear seeds and allergy pills: a new combo for hives?
NCT ID NCT07575464
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding ear acupressure (using tiny seed patches on specific ear points) to a standard antihistamine (Loratadine) can better reduce hives symptoms and improve quality of life compared to a sham ear treatment. Sixty-six adults with Wind-Heat type urticaria will be randomly assigned to receive either real or fake ear acupressure for 4 weeks, while all take the same daily antihistamine. The main goal is to see if the real acupressure leads to a greater drop in itch and wheal scores.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Loratadine 10mg (antihistamine) plus auricular acupressure with Vaccaria seed patches
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safe, low-cost add-on therapy to ease hives symptoms and improve quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 66 participants. The sham control may not fully blind participants, and results may not apply to other types of urticaria.
