New hope for stubborn smokers: major trial tests two alternative quitting aids

NCT ID NCT07274475

Summary

This study is testing whether e-cigarettes or a medication called cytisine can help people who continue to smoke despite trying standard treatments like nicotine patches and counseling. It will involve 6,000 adults in Ontario who smoke at least 5 cigarettes daily and have not quit after six months in a free stop-smoking program. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either an e-cigarette starter kit or a 28-day supply of cytisine to see which approach better reduces smoking and is more acceptable.
