New ultrasound technique may help some rectal cancer patients avoid major surgery

NCT ID NCT03068403

First seen May 24, 2026 ยท Last updated May 24, 2026

Summary

This study explored whether a special ultrasound (dynamic contrast-enhanced ultrasound) can predict how well rectal cancer responds to chemotherapy and radiation. The goal is to identify good responders who might safely avoid major surgery and instead have a less invasive procedure or no surgery at all. Only 2 people took part, so results are very early and not conclusive.
