New hormone protocol could make IVF cheaper and easier for women with low egg supply
NCT ID NCT05847283
First seen Dec 26, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests whether using the hormone dydrogesterone (taken as a pill) alongside standard fertility injections can help women with low ovarian reserve collect more eggs for IVF. The trial compares this approach to the usual GnRH antagonist protocol. Researchers will track pregnancy rates after the first embryo transfer in 730 women aged 18-37.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Dydrogesterone (oral hormone) and human menopausal gonadotrophin (hMG) injections
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more affordable and patient-friendly way to collect eggs for IVF in women with low ovarian reserve, potentially improving pregnancy chances.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 2/3 trial with 730 participants, but results may not apply to all women. The protocol may not significantly improve egg quality or pregnancy rates, and side effects from hormones are possible.
