Talking through memories may lighten the load for dementia caregivers
NCT ID NCT07796347
First seen Sep 01, 2026 · Last updated Sep 02, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a program called Dyadic Life Review, where older adults with advanced cancer and memory problems talk through their life stories with a caregiver. The goal is to see if these conversations reduce caregiver burden and stress while bringing the pair closer together. Researchers will measure changes in caregiver burden and relationship closeness over 18 weeks. The trial enrolls patients aged 65 and older with stage III or IV cancer and mild cognitive impairment, along with their caregivers aged 50 and older.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Dyadic Life Review (DLR), a structured conversation-based intervention for patients and caregivers
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this could offer a simple, non-drug way to reduce caregiver stress and improve closeness between older patients with advanced cancer and dementia and their caregivers.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is relatively small and early, and the intervention may not produce lasting changes in caregiver burden. Results depend on participants engaging fully in the sessions.
