Cystic fibrosis drug combo put to the test with statins

NCT ID NCT07349394

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This completed Phase 1 study tested how a cystic fibrosis drug combo (vanzacaftor/tezacaftor/deutivacaftor) affects the body's processing of the statin rosuvastatin. 18 healthy adults took both medications to check for interactions and safety. The goal was to see if the drug combo changes rosuvastatin levels in the blood, which could guide future dosing for people with cystic fibrosis who also need statins.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Vanzacaftor/Tezacaftor/Deutivacaftor (a triple combination drug for cystic fibrosis)

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help doctors understand how to safely combine this cystic fibrosis treatment with common statins like rosuvastatin.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small study in healthy people, not patients. It only checks drug interactions, not whether the treatment works for cystic fibrosis.
