New hope in brain surgery: drug may prevent dangerous complications

NCT ID NCT06352593

Summary

This study tested if giving a sedative drug called dexmedetomidine during a specific brain surgery could help patients. The surgery was for a life-threatening brain bleed caused by a burst aneurysm. Researchers wanted to see if the drug could reduce dangerous blood vessel spasms that often happen after this type of bleed, which can lead to more brain damage or death. They compared outcomes in 90 patients who either received the drug infusion or did not during their procedure.
