Balloon treatment may defuse dangerous heart plaques

NCT ID NCT07107971

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether a drug-coated balloon can make dangerous fatty plaques in heart arteries less risky than using standard medications alone. About 400 adults with acute coronary syndrome will be randomly assigned to receive either the balloon treatment or no extra treatment during their planned heart procedure. Researchers will use scans and a follow-up catheterization to measure changes in plaque fat content and safety over 9 months.
