Balloon vs. stent: new heart study could change how we treat clogged arteries

NCT ID NCT07363161

First seen Jan 26, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study compares two treatments for complex coronary artery disease: a drug-coated balloon and a drug-eluting stent. About 2,184 high-risk patients will be randomly assigned to one of the two procedures and followed for up to 3 years to see which approach better prevents heart-related complications and bleeding. The goal is to determine if the balloon is as good as or better than the stent for these patients.
