Earlier drain removal after breast reconstruction may boost recovery and satisfaction
NCT ID NCT07237828
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares removing drainage tubes earlier versus later after a specific type of nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate breast implant reconstruction. About 379 women aged 18–70 with breast cancer or those having preventive mastectomy will take part. The goal is to see if earlier removal improves patient satisfaction and reduces complications like infection, without compromising safety.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If earlier drain removal proves safe, it could shorten hospital stays, reduce infection risk, and improve patient satisfaction after breast reconstruction.
What could go wrong
This is a procedure-focused trial, not testing a new drug or cure. The benefit may be modest, and earlier removal could increase complications like fluid buildup or infection.
